The Urban Alliance

Urban Alliance is a youth development organization that provides young people with the professional skills training and work experience needed to succeed in tomorrow’s labor market. By providing Urban Alliance youth with early, meaningful work, our Chicago business partners are helping to strengthen the school-to-work pipeline and prepare the next generation of leaders.


Air Force JROTC

AFJROTC is offered to students in grades 9–12 who are highly motivated and want to succeed. It features structured military and leadership training, along with interdisciplinary core content learning. Students will develop an appreciation for the impact of the aerospace age on our society and way of life. Students will develop effective followership and leadership skills and an understanding of the importance of self and group discipline. An additional aspect of the course is beginning to mastery of military drill and ceremonies. Students will also learn different aspects of physical fitness.


One Goal

The OneGoal Solution While there are often opportunities available to students at the top of their class, OneGoal prioritizes students whose college prospects are extremely limited. Our cohorts enter the program with an average of 2.7 GPA, a 876 SAT, and a 15 ACT score. To make college graduation a reality for all students, we need an in-school solution that is both rigorous and scalable. OneGoal offers an innovative and proven solution at a low cost.



Embarc is a three-year program that provides community-driven, experienced-based learning opportunities to low-income High School students to inspire and prepare them for college and career success.



BUILD’s programs are designed to meet both the immediate problem of preventing at-risk youth from joining gangs as well as working with gang-involved youth to develop alternatives to this destructive lifestyle. Our service population also includes youth who have come in contact with the justice system to prevent and/or provide alternatives to detention and assist with successful re-entry into their communities.



buildOn’s Service Learning Program develops a deep culture of service within Chicago schools and increases civic and academic engagement among students. Throughout Chicago, hundreds of thousands of high school students are at risk of dropping out of school and engaging in unsafe activities. The city’s epidemic of gun violence makes finding solutions more urgent than ever. buildOn’s Service Learning Program develops a deep culture of service within Chicago schools to increase civic and academic engagement among youth.

At the Chicago Urban League we believe that a strong African American community makes a stronger Chicago. For nearly a century, the Urban League—through unique community, corporate and civic relationships,—has helped people find jobs, affordable housing, educational opportunities, and grow businesses. We are passionate advocates for educational equality, economic development and social justice.


Ada S. McKinley

Through college preparation and placement programs, Ada S. McKinley provides comprehensive support designed to assist high school students attend the college of their choice. Ada S. McKinley guides over 2,400 students annually—the majority of whom are low-income and first-generation college aspirants—through the entire college placement process, from preparing to take the ACT test, identifying colleges, completing application forms and filling out financial aid papers. Ada S. McKinley also provides tours of colleges and universities across the nation to help prospective students identify the right educational fit for their needs and goals. To date, we have successfully placed more than 60,000 inner-city students in over 400 colleges and universities nationwide. Our students who graduate from college have far greater access to employment and civic involvement, means to change their lives and the lives of their families through long-term health and prosperity.

SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently under served communities, and creates long-term and community-wide change.
